A great leader can’t just be someone off the street with no experience for a specific need. For example, a great leader in finance should probably have a great sum of experience in finance. If you have a finance team and you’re the team lead, you can be the greatest people person but suck at finance – Watch over time as the finance team you lead crumbles because you simply can’t help them with your lack of experience.
Not only does a great leader have to first be great, they have to know how to follow. When I say this, know I am speaking of a hierachy. A great leader knows that when someone else has more experience in a specific field than them, they should let the more experienced person take the lead.
Finally, a great leader knows they can’t do it all by themselves, they have to have a team to lead. Someone that commands respect when they walk into a room. Notice as I said, commands vs demands. When you are a great leader, people will let you know and will even tell you “You should be the one leading this company.”
